Is the name of the latest project that Grupo W did with the prestigious agency Goodby, Silverstein and Partners and Reality Digital as the Video Editor company.
Of course, all project that arrives to our hands is special, unique and irreplaceable (like a child), and every one receives affection, and for us it has a special proud (I insist, like a child). This project also, like the previous ones, took a lot of our time in the past months of December and January (in fact some of the team in charge didn’t take vacations on Christmas days).
It made us pass some sleepless nights, some intense moments…sometimes desperate (like parents do), but finally we did finish it.
Also we had some special guests during the last part of the project (as Daniel mentioned before on some other post). They get used to W style very quick!, they put also a lot of effort and time into it (regards to Felipe and Wyeth!), and they had a lot of ideas interchange with the project director from W (Ulises who also did travel to SF at the beginning of the project… is good to be a director).
This project I’m talking about is “Edit your own”, campaign that made its debut in the last Superbowl.
Some background: These last two editions of the Super bowl have, as characteristic very high percentages of TV spots whose messages should be completed on the internet (above 80%). One of those was the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, which invited users to produce their own version of the commercial by applying online.
In this project, one of the most important parts was the programming in AS3, where the key programmers took a lot of part of the credit (Raul, Edgar & David), and the strategy of how to tell the story was also an important decision.
On the site you will see that the first section is a “visualizer” of a lap on a Indiana track. The Coupe is driven by the famous New Zealand pilot Rhys Millen, and in the “visualizer” you can add up to 8 different cameras, which are synchronized with each other and, in the latest step, you can actually change the camera to have 16 different shots of the lap.
The challenge was to find the balance between video quality and size file’s size, besides the programming I already talked about with rollovers, transitions, sound, etc.
The site has some other sections like Features, Gallery (you can take some snap shots on the visualizer and the will appear here), and the video editor engine to do your own video (try it, is really cool).
Definitely I highly appreciate to everyone´s work, because thanks to the them, the project was a real success (more than 70,000 visits during Sunday´s superbowl).
Although the challenge was on the programming side, as a key part of the team I would like to mention : Fyr, Sebastian, Matt, Alex, Caleb, Homero y Carlos, and my partner in San Francisco, Alex Burke.
We were not in the Superbowl, but we were very close!
